Lantern Festivals

I want to go to the lantern festivals in Chiang Mai this November. Is it worth going? My kids will be 7 & 8 is it too chaotic for them? I guess I just don't know what to expect exactly. It just looks amazing in photos so it's something I've always wanted to do.
